The Circuit has been working towards achieving Fairtrade Status for the last two years. On May 13th 2016 The Fairtrade Foundation awarded the Circuit Fairtrade Status. The certificate will be presented to the Circuit at the September Synod.
There are 17 churches with Fairtrade Church Status and another 9 churches serve Fairtrade Tea and Coffee and are working towards gaining Fairtrade Church Status. In addition to encouraging churches to gain Fairtrade Status we have been encouraging families to sign up to the circuit’s Fairtrade Pledge.
In 2015 all Churches were encouraged to hold a Fairtrade Service and the Circuit held a Fairtrade Service during Fairtrade Fortnight at Huddersfield Mission. The Circuit has also hosted two Fairtrade Fairs in conjunction with fairandfunky, Huddersfield Mission and Kirklees Fairtrade Forum, as well as promoting Fairtrade through the Circuit’s quarterly newsletter “In Touch” and encouraged Churches to have articles and features in their own Church magazines. The Circuit also achieved national publicity with an article in the Methodist Church on line magazine “The Buzz”.
