Children's Circuit CampCarry on Camping! |
26th-27th September, 2015 |
On the last weekend in September, 20 excited children from around our Circuit gathered together at Gledholt Methodist Church for Children’s Circuit Camp. A whole weekend of activities, all themed around finding the hidden treasure, were waiting to be explored…
On Saturday the children were invited to think about what was treasure to them. They created treasure boxes; filling them with words to treasure from the Bible, special people (not literally!), precious stones and of course some chocolate coins! Biscuits were baked, amazing designer T-shirts made and lots of messy games played. We revelled in the lovely sunny weather, enjoying a picnic lunch and play at Greenhead Park. Of course, no treasure- themed weekend would be complete without a treasure hunt; so the children set off in teams around the park in search of clues to reveal the hidden treasure. For those of you who are of a certain age like me, it reminded me a bit of the TV program Challenge Anneka with all that dashing about! |

A fantastic and informative visit to the Ambulance Station, next to the church, revealed that there are definitely some budding paramedics amongst our young people! We completed our Saturday by slowing down with some much needed chill time – enjoying a film (Night at the Museum 3) with popcorn before bedtime.
On Sunday morning the children participated in All Age Worship, sharing all they had done the previous day with members of the congregation. They were full of confidence and energy with their impromptu presentations and a drama script reading of The Lost Sheep! The focus of treasure had now changed to how God sees each one of us as special and unique, just like treasure. Following the service everyone was invited to continue sharing in our celebrations with a faith lunch.
All in all a fun weekend was had - full of new friendships, laughter and faith and a few tired leaders by the end of it! I would like to thank all the people who helped make this weekend a BIG success – you know who you are!
