Suzanne Bridges - Children's Work Co-ordinator
A Bit About Me…
I grew up attending Birtenshaw Methodist Church (Bolton) from the age of about 7yrs old and soon became immersed in church life. This ranged from attending Sunday School to later becoming a Sunday School teacher, being JMA secretary, featuring in music and drama productions and of course being a member of our popular youth club. As a teenager, I really enjoyed the MAYC weekends - I still have my old yellow and green scarf and MAYC badges even now! Today I attend St Andrews Methodist/URC Church in Penistone.
As a Mum with 3 boys life can sometimes get pretty hectic. I enjoy spending time with my family, whether it is going for walks, local visits such as Yorkshire Sculpture Park or an evening of board games. When I get chance, I like to indulge my passion for cakes by a spot of baking – though I’m not quite up to the Great British Bake Off just yet! I also like to relax by getting lost in a film or book.
A Bit About the Job…
As Children’s Work Coordinator, I am responsible for supporting and developing children’s work across the Huddersfield Circuit. Working together with colleagues and/or volunteers, I want to provide opportunities for children to learn and explore their faith, through sharing with others and having fun. My work is mainly focused on the primary and pre-school age group. Here’s a little taste of some of the projects with which I’m involved:
Messy Church – Half of our thirty churches within the Huddersfield Circuit now offer Messy Church, some independently or in collaboration with ecumenical partners. I offer support through working closely with individual groups and also by facilitating network opportunities such as Messy Xchange. I am currently touring all the Messy Churches in the Circuit.
Children’s Circuit Camp – This has become an annual event – an opportunity for children around the Circuit to come together to share in faith, fun and friendship. September 2015 will see the first At Home Camp, being based at Gledholt Methodist Church. Planning and organisation is well underway, with the weekend culminating in All Age Worship and a faith lunch!
Godly Play – Working closely with Rev Sally Spencer and Rev Sue Burton, we’re looking to develop Godly Play within the Circuit. Slathwaite Methodist Church already has a Godly Play classroom established. I have worked alongside the Slathwaite team, delivering Godly Play to one of the local schools and am involved with the Godly Play network meetings. We’re currently looking to extend Godly Play opportunities to other schools subject to our current resources.
Other - Transition work (10-13yrs) with my youth worker colleague Chris, advising toddler groups, being part of Kirklees SACRE and supporting other local Christian groups such as Hand to Mouth...
