The Blackbird Project

The project began when the Circuit wanted to engage with its local communities to help individuals encounter problems which can be overwhelming.

Over the years the overall direction of travel has remained the same – to help small groups who wouldn’t normally be associated with church emotionally and psychologically.  That said, the project has been able to move nimbly, changing where and when needed to be most effective.

The pioneer minister, Tim Moore runs 8-week mindfulness courses, coaching, listening and bereavement listening.  He has worked with Kirkwood Hospice, the NHS and other agencies.  He is currently working with South Yorkshire Chaplaincy and Listening Service.

During those times when face-to-face courses cannot run Tim has transferred as much of the project online as he can.

There are weekly Zoom mindfulness sessions (email Tim for more information), WhatsApp chat groups and he has transferred the 8-week courses into a slimmed-down version onto Facebook and YouTube (just search for Blackbird Mindfulness).

The project has reached hundreds of people in the short time it has been running and has changed many lives for the better.  It is accessible to those inside as well as outside church communities.
