Hymn

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Food for Thought

Read the Bible passage Mark 14:32-42

Probably knowing he was  soon to die because  events were working  against him, Jesus goes up a mountain to pray. He asks for strength to cope with what will soon  happen  to him. His insight is right, these are excruciatingly painful times and by the end of our Bible Reading we hear that one of his disciples, Judas is going to betray him.

Questions to Ponder

1. Mountains are mentioned many times in the Bible as being holy places. Moses for instance was called up the mountain to receive the ten commandments. Do we have special places away from it all where we go to pray? Do we feel mountaintops inspirational places?

2. Jesus prayed to his Father “If it be possible take this cup of suffering away from me”. Are there times, maybe during  difficult days  when we have prayed that prayer? Are there times when we don’t feel our prayers are being listened to or answered? Why do we think that was?

3.  Jesus prayed “not my will but yours be done” a difficult prayer. Have we ever had the courage to pray that prayer?

4. Judas betrayed Jesus, it must have really hurt. Have we been hurt badly by those who we have believed were our friends? If so have we been able to forgive?
